Privacy policy
Last updated:
This policy explains how we process your personal data when you use the Breeding Journal app and the website breedingjournal.com, and what rights you have. We care about your privacy and only collect what we need.
1. Controller
Calobre AB, Swedish reg. no. 559381-6258, Dalby Dalen, 641 98 Björkvik, Sweden, is the controller. Send questions about your personal data to info@breedingjournal.com.
2. What we process and why
Your account and the app
When you create an account we store your email address, your name and your language. In the app we store what you enter yourself: dogs, heats, matings, litters, puppies, contracts and other documents, health results, income and expenses. We also store when you last used the app and your subscription level.
Purpose: to provide the service. Legal basis: contract.
Information about other people, such as puppy buyers’ names, phone numbers and email addresses, is entered by you. You are responsible for having the right to store it. It is never shown to other users. If you approve that another breeder’s sire is linked to your litter, that breeder can see the litter and the puppies – but never the puppy buyers’ contact details.
Purchases and payments
If you buy on the website you pay by card through Stripe. We receive your name, email address, country, what you bought, amount, VAT, subscription period and any discount code. Card details are handled only by Stripe. If you buy in the app, Apple or Google handle the payment and we receive information about your subscription through our subscription service RevenueCat.
Purpose: to handle purchases, renewals, receipts, refunds and bookkeeping. Legal basis: contract and legal obligation (Swedish Bookkeeping Act).
Discount codes and partners
If you use a discount code or come to us through a partner’s link, we record which partner referred the purchase so the partner can be paid. The partner does not receive your contact details. Legal basis: legitimate interest.
Contact form and email
If you write to us we store your name, email address and message so we can reply. To stop spam we keep an anonymised (hashed) value of your IP address for at most two days – the IP address itself is not stored. Legal basis: legitimate interest.
Newsletter
We only send newsletters if you have agreed to it, for example in the app. Mailings may be tailored to your subscription level, language or breed club. Every newsletter has a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can also turn mailings off in the app. We store when you gave and withdrew your consent. Legal basis: consent.
Website statistics
We measure how the website is used with a privacy-friendly analytics service that does not use cookies and does not store IP addresses. We only see aggregated statistics, such as which pages are visited, where visitors come from and what type of device they use. No individual visitor can be identified. Legal basis: legitimate interest.
3. Cookies and browser storage
The website uses no cookies for marketing or tracking.
- Login: when you log in on the buy page, the login service (Firebase) keeps you signed in using browser storage. This is necessary for the purchase to work.
- Partner link: if you arrive through a partner’s link, a cookie (bj_ref) with the partner’s code is kept for 30 days so the partner can be paid if you buy.
4. Who we share data with
We never sell your data. We use the following providers, who may only process data on our instructions (processors) or who are independently responsible for their part:
- Google (Firebase/Google Cloud) – hosting of the app, database, login and website.
- Stripe – card payments and receipts. Stripe is independently responsible for, among other things, fraud prevention.
- Apple and Google – the app stores and in-app purchases (independent controllers).
- RevenueCat – management of subscriptions bought in the app.
- Email provider – sending newsletters and service messages.
- Analytics service – cookieless website statistics.
- Loopia – our email.
We disclose data to authorities when required by law.
5. Transfers outside the EU/EEA
We always aim to process data within the EU/EEA. Some of our providers (such as Google, Stripe and RevenueCat) may process data in the United States. Such transfers rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
6. How long we keep data
- Account and app data: as long as you have an account. When you delete the account the data is deleted, except what we must keep by law.
- Purchases and receipts: seven years after the end of the calendar year of the purchase (Swedish Bookkeeping Act).
- Contact messages: until the matter is closed, at most 12 months.
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe. The unsubscription itself is kept so we do not email you again.
- Spam protection: the hashed IP value is deleted within two days.
7. Security
We protect data with technical and organisational measures: encrypted connections, access rules that let each user reach only their own data, and limited access for those of us who run the service.
8. Your rights
You have the right to:
- know what data we hold about you and get a copy (access),
- have incorrect data corrected (rectification),
- have data deleted when it is no longer needed (erasure),
- ask us to restrict processing (restriction),
- receive data you have provided in a machine-readable format (portability),
- object to processing based on legitimate interest, and always to direct marketing,
- withdraw consent at any time.
Email info@breedingjournal.com and we will help you, normally within one month. If you are unhappy with how we process your data you can complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY), www.imy.se, or the data protection authority where you live.
9. Changes
We may update this policy. The latest version is always here, and we will tell you in the app or by email about material changes.
